To be eligible and approved for this visa you must either be nominated by a state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible family relative living in a Regional area of Australia. This visa is granted for 5 years, and you can become eligible to be granted permanent residency after 3 years.
You must also;
- Have a relevant occupation on the skilled occupation list
- declare that you have a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation (that was obtained in the 3 years before your applied) at time of invitation.
- only apply for this visa if the Australian Government invites you to.
- (as this is a ‘points-based’ granted visa) obtain a score of at least 65 points to be invited to apply for this visa (but depending on the competitiveness for the grant of a particular visa you may need to score higher than 65 points). - be aged under 45 years to be invited to apply. Please note however if you turn 45 after you apply for this visa you will still be eligible to apply for permanent residency.
If you are sponsored by an eligible relative, you (or your spouse) must be related to them in the following way:
- Non-dependent child – including a natural, adoptive or step-child;
- Parent – including adoptive or step-parent;
- Brother or sister – including adoptive or step-siblings;
- Niece or nephew – including adoptive or step-niece or nephew; or
- Aunt or uncle – including adoptive or step-aunt or uncle;
- Grandparent or first cousin.
Note:
This visa is ‘Points Tested’ and a positive ‘Skills Assessment’ is also required which is usually based on the applicant’s formal qualification and their work experience. However, in some circumstances where the applicant has only work experience, they may be eligible to be assessed via the ‘Recognised Prior Learning’ process. Also, please note that some nominated positions require certain work experience or specialised skills.
